With the game slipping away from Canada’s grip, Jeremy Gordon deceived Pakistan opener Mohammad Rizwan with a good length delivery that broke the toe end of his bat into pieces.

In a do-or-die game, Pakistan clashed with Canada at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York earlier today. Pakistan surprisingly won the toss and bowled first. Unlike against India, Babar Azam didn’t pay the price, as his bowlers were right on the money against an associate team.

Haris Rauf and Mohammad Amir struck early and despite Aaron Johnson’s half century, Canada finished with a lowly 107 runs total.

Pakistan changed their opening pair for the decisive game as Saim Ayub walked out with Mohammad Rizwan. Just when the duo were getting ahead of the required run rate, Dillon Heyliger removed Ayub which paved the way for captain Babar Azam.

Meanwhile, in the final over of the powerplay, Jeremy Gordon tried to intimidate Mohammad Rizwan. He picked up the PAK opener’s movement down the track and deceived him with a good-length delivery outside the off stump.

Rizwan missed the timing terribly as the ball struck the toe end of his bat and a piece of the wood came out. Subsequently, the game was halted for a short while as Rizwan had to change his willow.

Having said that, the short halt didn’t affect Rizwan’s momentum as he and Babar Azam capitalised on the good start to advance steadily in the 108-run chase.

Notably, even if Pakistan end up beating Canada, they still have a must-win game left against Ireland. Moreover, in order to qualify for the Super 8 stage, the Men in Green must also pray for the USA’s downfall against India on Wednesday.
