Babar Azam Demoted After India Loss; Here Is Why PAK Skipper Is Not Opening Vs CAN

Everything is at stake for Pakistan as they face Canada at the Nassau County International Stadium on June 11. The Men in Green have lost two games in a trot and a defeat against Canada would see them crash out of the tournament.

In the ongoing game, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and chose to field first. Pakistan made one change as they brought Saim Ayub in place of Iftikhar Ahmed, who struggled against India.

Pakistani players were under the scanner after the defeat against India for taking the game too deep and lacking aggressive intent which is the demand of this format. Thus, to cater to more explosive batting, Ayub will be playing his first game in this World Cup as he is known for his attacking style of play.

Babar, at the time of the toss, confirmed that Ayub would open the innings, which means that Babar Azam will demote himself in the batting order and move to the No.3 slot.

It is not the first time that Pakistan have demoted skipper Babar to accommodate Ayub to open the innings This change was made during Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand earlier in the year, where Ayub was tried as an opener alongside Mohammad Rizwan.

However, this pairing didn’t produce the desired results, as they struggled to form significant partnerships. It is to be seen whether Rizwan and Ayub can provide the start that the Men in Green are looking for in their previous two matches.
