In a last-ball thrilling PSL encounter between Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi, Iftikhar Ahmed's late heroics with the willow ended up in the losing cause as Babar Azam's Zalmi had the last laugh in a high-octane matchup.

The PSL game between Multan Sultans and Peshawar Zalmi hosted at Rawalpindi was always anticipated to be an exciting contest and perfectly lived up to the hype.

After Babar Azam's clinical knock set the tone, Zalmi fed on the momentum to post a formidable 204 runs total in the first innings. On the contrary, the Sultans succumbed under the chasing pressure and lost a couple of early wickets.

Dawid Malan and Tayyab Tahir pushed hard for a partnership, but Zalmi kept on chipping crucial wickets at regular intervals to close out all doors for the mighty force of Multan Sultans.

However, Iftikhar Ahmed managed to break through the door with a late cameo. He targeted Aamer Jamal and punished the pacer to fetch a 21-run-over, and that big over kept the Sultans in the hunt.

While an experienced Naveen Ul Haq kept things tight in the deceive penultimate over, the Afghani fumbled in the final delivery. He bowled a length delivery but ended up offering more width than required, which allowed Ahmed to pump a towering shot over the deep long-off boundary.  Iftikhar had not only stitched a 24-ball half-century but also allowed his side a fighting chance.

With 24 needed off the final over, Chris Jordan and Iftikhar Ahmed took the game as deep as they could but fell short of a mere four runs at the end and endured a painful defeat.

Regardless, with a playoff berth secured, such hard-fought losses will leave too little impact on Multan Sultans' morale. In fact, such losses are a blessing in disguise for Mohammad Rizwan as it's an opportunity to plug the loopholes before the knockout stage.
