Afghanistan's fast bowler Naveen-ul-Haq has lauded the calm leadership of former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024.

In a podcast on Peshawar Zalmi's YouTube channel, Naveen praised Babar's calm demeanor on the field, stating,

"From what I have seen, [he is] very chilled, very relaxed. If your captain starts to get aggressive and hyper, then it becomes difficult for the entire team."

Naveen also highlighted the ease of communication with Babar, noting their mutual calmness as beneficial for the team's dynamics.

“As both of our personalities are quite calm, communicating with Babar is very simple, and thus far, there haven't been any issues. In my opinion, your team benefits when you remain composed while playing. A leader who maintains composure and keeps the team together is needed when things go wrong on the field or when you lose,” according to Naveen.

Regarding their past altercation in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Naveen clarified that it was left on the field.

"Whatever happened was during the match, and it ended right there."

Naveen-ul-Haq has played in only three games so for Zalmi, picking up five wickets. However, his economy rate of over 11 has been a concern for the team as they aim to qualify for the playoffs.

Babar, 29 years old, has led Peshawar Zalmi to third place in the league with three wins and two losses. The 24-year-old Naveen appreciated Babar's success as a former Pakistan skipper, mentioning his achievements in leading Pakistan to the semi-final and final of the T20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022.

Babar's captaincy record across formats for Pakistan, with 78 wins and 44 losses in 134 games, reflects a win percentage of over 58%.
