India’s greatest spinner, Anil Kumble recently hailed Ravichandran Ashwin for consistently delivering desired performances for the Indian team. Ashwin has been an integral part of the Indian squad at home ever since his debut and has showcased his heroics for the team on multiple occasions.

Ahead of his 100th Test match, Ravichandran Ashwin got a huge compliment from Kumble as he reflected on the former’s career growth. While welcoming the Tamil Nadu spinner to the 500 wickets fraternity, Anil Kumble also lauded the spin champion for the rare milestone.

Anil Kumble Reflects on Ravichandran Ashwin's Upcoming Milestone 100th Test Match

In an exclusive chat with the Hindustan Times, Anil Kumble compared Ravichandran Ashwin’s career with his, while analysing that he should have played his hundredth test match a lot sooner. Kumble also questioned the reason why Ashwin hardly gets picked in the team when India travels outside the Indian subcontinent.

“I guess even his career has been similar to mine; he probably started later, I started a bit early. But otherwise, it pretty much mirrors some of the things I went through. In my view, he should have played his 100th much earlier. But for some reason, he hasn't. No one is sure why he doesn't get picked when India travels outside of the subcontinent. That's a bit strange, something I have always been perplexed by. It did happen to me too, but this is very different.”

Anil Kumble also talked about the harsh realities of cricket as the batsmen get more recognition than the bowlers. The veteran spinner believes India will miss Ravichandran Ashwin whenever he announces his retirement from international cricket. Kumble said,

“I know people are talking about him and what he has achieved already but especially in a country like India, bowlers don't get the same kind of adulation that batters do. That's the nature of how we look at cricket in our country. We will probably realize his quality when retires and moves on. But in my book, Ash is in the top tier of players who have played for the country.”

Ravichandran Ashwin will be back in action in his iconic 100th test match against England in the final game of the five-match test series. The game will be hosted at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamshala from 7th March. Ashwin will eye to once again create his magic with both bat and the ball in the 100th Test for India.
