Ahead of the fifth Test match against England scheduled for March 7, Indian captain Rohit Sharma landed in Bilaspur for an Indian sports ministry-hosted 'Khel Mahakumbh' inauguration event. Sharma's attendance amid a tight schedule left the sports minister Anurag Thakur speechless.

The series finale of the India versus England five-game Test series will be played at Dharamsala on Thursday, 7th of March. While India triumphed in the series with the Ranchi Test win, the finale promises an exciting contest regardless.

Ahead of the game, teams have assembled in the beautiful city of Dharamsala. However, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was busy attending prior commitments.

Earlier today, Rohit, with Indian head coach Rahul Dravid, landed in Bilaspur to attend the 'Khel Mahakumbh' inauguration ceremony hosted by the Indian sports ministry.

The event is an exciting platform for aspiring athletes to showcase their talent and thrive to further improve their skill set. To further promote and spread awareness about the sporting event, the Indian government sent out invites to Rohit and Dravid, who gracefully accepted the invitation to mark their presence despite managing a hectic schedule.

Meanwhile, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur was amazed by Rohit Sharma's dedication to sports and applauded him during his speech. Thakur revealed how Rohit boarded an early morning flight from Delhi to land in Bilaspur by 5.30 am.

He would have easily skipped the event and traveled to Dharamsala to join the team. But Sharma knew the 'Khel Mahakumbh' is where the future of sports will be fostered. Thus, the skipper chose to make time for the event.

"Rohit Sharma came to Bilaspur from Delhi at 5.30am to inaugurate Khel Mahakumbh. If Rohit wanted, he could've refused to come as 5th Test starts from 7th March, but he came as he knew India's future would be here," said Anurag Thakur.

Notably, Rohit Sharma was in Jamnagar a couple of days ago to attend businessman Anant Ambani's pre-wedding festivities along with several other influential global personalities.

The fifth Test match is scheduled to go on floors from the 7th of March onwards at Dharamsala, where the weather seems unfavorable for a game of cricket.
