Jonny Bairstow will be adding another cap to his illustrious Test career when he takes field against India at Dharamsala on March 7. The match will mark the cricketer’s 100th Test appearance for England, thus making him only the 17th player from his country to reach the landmark figure.

A couple of days prior to the historic occasion, Bairstow spoke about the significance of the impending achievement and also praised the picturesque setting of the Dharamshala venue.

Emotional Jonny Bairstow speaks ahead of 100th Test

Jonny Bairstow has signified the importance of his impending 100th Test appearance for England. A couple of days prior to the launch of his milestone match, the 34-year-old English cricketer described himself an 'emotional guy' who is 'very proud' of the looming achievement. While speaking with the reporters, he said:

“It is going to be an emotional week. Absolutely. I am very proud, I am an emotional kind of guy. So at some point get the tears ready, the tissues even. It [playing 100 Tests] means a hell of a lot. Every young kid that sets out on a journey of playing professional cricket wants to try and play a 100 Test matches.”

Jonny Bairstow further praised the picturesque setting of the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, which will be attended by his close family and friends to celebrate his landmark appearance. He added:

“I don't think there's a more picturesque ground in the world. It's great to have them [friends and family] out here. It's an amazing place to come. It's fantastic to have some family and some friends out here.”

Jonny Bairstow, meanwhile, has not been at his belligerent best this series. Despite featuring in all four matches of the series so far, the attacking right-handed batter has only managed to tally 170 runs across eight innings at a substandard average of 21.25.

Even though England won the opening Test by 28 runs at Hyderabad, Ben Stokes and co. squandered away their early series advantage by losing the subsequent three matches. With crucial WTC points on the line, the visitors will face hosts India at Dharamshala’s HPCA Stadium between March 7 and March 11.
