Multan Sultans face off against Islamabad United in the highly-anticipated final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) this Monday (March 18). 

After a month of riveting T20 action, the PSL 2024 has reached its summit clash, where the former champions Sultans strive to reclaim the coveted trophy against their Islamabad counterparts. 

The Sultans have been the more dominant team in the competition, winning seven of their ten league stage fixtures before pulling off a comprehensive triumph over Peshawar Zalmi in Qualifier 1. 

On their part, the United are heading to the final with massive confidence after winning two consecutive knock-out matches against Quetta Gladiators and Zalmi in Eliminator 1 and 2, respectively.

Multan Sultans 

The Sultans reinforced their dominance and overall prowess in the manner with which they toppled off the Zalmi franchise in Qualifier 1. 

Restricting the opposition for just 146/7 despite Babar Azam's measured 46, the Mohammad Rizwan-led side then eased home in the second half with seven wickets in hand and almost two overs remaining. 

Bowlers set up the contest for the Sultans, with Usama Mir and Chris Jordan coming up with strong performances. 

Young opener Yasir Khan then belted an enterprising knock of 54 to set up a foundation for the Sultans' chase before No.3 Usman Khan's attacking 36 not out took the team home.

Islamabad defeated Zalmi in eliminator 2 [AP]

Two consecutive wins in direct knock-out games over the Gladiators and the Zalmi franchise would've lifted the United's morale and confidence as they would believe they could upstage the numero uno Sultans in the marquee final. 

After a heavy win over the Gladiators, the United thwarted the Peshawar side in a terrific turnaround on Saturday (March 16), where they chased down an imposing target of 186 despite being placed in a deep hole at 91/5 at one stage. 

Excellent half-centuries from experienced allrounder Imad Wasim and promising right-hander Haider Ali transformed their fortunes and helped United secure a place in the summit clash.

The pitch at the National Stadium in Karachi was in its true elements during the Eliminator 2 clash held between the United and Zalmi, where the former managed to overhaul the latter's daunting first-innings total of 185/5 despite the pressure of the asking rate in a knock-out game. 

The surface stayed true and offered the batters pace and bounce to hit through the line consistently. That is likely to be the case in the final as well when United return to take on the Sultans.
