Indian acclaimed all-rounder Hardik Pandya was ruled out of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 midway due to an ankle injury. Pandya recently revealed that his injury was aggravated by a desperate attempt to return to the tournament with rushed rehabilitation.

Hardik Pandya was touted as India's key contributor to the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. However, the all-rounder sustained a grievous ankle injury, which ruled him out of the tournament in the league stages.

Meanwhile, recalling the events that led to a three-month layoff, Pandya admitted to rushing his rehab, which led to unnecessary aggravation.

In a recent interview, Hardik Pandya recalled how he promised Indian team management he would return within five days and went on an aggressive rehab program.

He desperately wanted to represent India at the big event and intended to exhaust all options before giving up.

Hardik revealed he took three injections at three separate places of his injured ankle. Not only that, Pandya had to remove a blood clot from his ankle to ensure faster recovery.

Due to aggressive recovery methods, Hardik Pandya experienced intense pain for which he sought painkillers for ten straight days. However, despite everything, the all-rounder struggled to even walk properly without assistance.

"I told management that I will return after 5 days then I got injections done on my ankle in three places, I had to remove blood from my ankle, I wanted to give everything then recurrence came as I was pushing so it become 3 month injury, I wasn't able to walk still I was taking pain-killers for 10 days to push one final time as playing for my country is the biggest pride but I missed out," said Hardik Pandya.

Hardik Pandya further added that those aggressive steps led to a three-month layoff as his injury only worsened.

He still regrets missing out on the tournament, as it allowed him to represent his country on the biggest stage. The moment of pride and satisfaction was snatched away from him due to an unfortunate injury.

That being said, after a three-month layoff, Hardik Pandya will return to the field in the impending IPL season as the captain of Mumbai Indians.
