Ahead of the three-game ODI series against New Zealand, Indian opener Rohit Sharma was spotted spending some casual time with friends. He is set to join the team in Vadodara in a few days.
Rohit, since getting sacked from the captaincy in ODIs after the Champions Trophy 2025 victory, has worked hard on his fitness.
He shed 10-15 kilos of weight with the help of friends and trainers who kept him motivated and supported him during dire times.
Rohit Sharma spends quality time with close friends
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is set to continue as opener in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand, set to begin on January 11.
Before he joined the team in Vadodara, Rohit spent his Sunday with his close friends in Mumbai. He was spotted laughing and blowing off steam with three of his best friends.
The picture went viral on social media, with fans praising Rohit’s down-to-earth attitude and for respecting friends who were there for him throughout his career.
Rohit Sharma, meanwhile, played the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai to prepare for the forthcoming ODI series. He scored a ton in the first game, followed by a duck in the second.
Regardless, Rohit appeared in good touch, and the game time is expected to help him retain his form on the international stage.
Rohit Sharma’s recent ODI form is promising
The physical transformation has worked wonders for Rohit Sharma. In his comeback series in Australia, he scored 73 and 121* in the second and third ODIs, respectively.
Further, in the series in South Africa, he followed up his good score of 57 with 14 and 75 in three ODIs, respectively.
In 2025, Rohit scored 650 runs in 14 ODIs with an average of 50.00 and strike rate of 100.46, with two hundreds and four fifties.
This is very significant given the criticism levelled against Rohit Sharma regarding his ability to stay fit and play well at the age of 38. He will be 40 during the 2027 World Cup but is still eager to contribute to Indian cricket.
