On Friday, December 26, the second round of Vijay Hazare Trophy matches got underway across various stadiums in India. Eyes were again on Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who were asked to play two games in BCCI’s domestic tournament.
In the first round, both Virat and Rohit put BCCI’s demand to rest and slammed quickfire centuries. Unfortunately, Virat’s game was played behind closed doors, but Rohit lit up the Sawai Mansingh Stadium with a blistering 155 (94). In the ongoing round, Mumbai locked horns against Uttarakhand in Jaipur, and the fans turned up in thousands to see the Hitman back in action.
The fans were left disappointed as Rohit Sharma returned to the pavilion after scoring a golden duck. On the last ball of the first over, Devendra Bora tested the Hitman with a short ball, who quickly looked to pull that one away.
However, the 38-year-old failed to connect one with perfection and gave a simple catch to the fielder at the boundary rope. Rohit was nearly presented with a chance to survive as the fielder juggled but took the catch in the second chance. Watch the dismissal here.
Fans leave stadium in disappointment
Although Rohit Sharma went back to the pavilion early, the crowd at Sawai Mansingh Stadium did not leave. The craze for Hitman and the Mumbai team is such that fans stuck to the field in anticipation of Rohit Sharma and team coming out to field and the fans getting some more time of an Indian legend on the field.
For the unversed, during Vijay Hazare Trophy's opening game, the Rajasthan Cricket Association had only opened two gates for the game, but the fans turned up in thousands, leading to logistical issues.
Therefore, for the ongoing match, the cricket association stated that they will be opening two more games to allow hassle-free movement of fans. Talking about the ongoing match, at the time of writing this article, Mumbai are 129/2 after 20 overs.
