England head coach Brendon McCullum stole the spotlight on Day 1 of the fifth and final Ashes Test at the SCG, but not for tactical brilliance. He was instead caught peeking at the answers to a crossword puzzle.
The amusing moment unfolded during the 39th over of England’s innings when Joe Root and Harry Brook were battling it out in the middle after losing 3 early wickets at 57 runs on the board.

Meanwhile, off the field, England head coach Brendon McCullum appeared relaxed in the dressing room, flipping through his crossword booklet and then cheekily checking the answers at the back.
As he was caught cheekily cheating for answers on camera, the commentary box had a field day. "You gotta be careful there on national TV looking up the answers, Baz,” one commentator joked.

The playful jibe turned into a viral moment as fans flooded social media with memes and laughs. Many poked fun at McCullum for lacking the skills to solve a basic crossword puzzle
On the field, England were finally showing some fight. Joe Root and Harry Brook were in complete control, steering England to 211/3 at Tea. The duo put together a solid, unbeaten 154-run stand.
Rain led to early stumps at SCG
But just as momentum began to build for England, the Sydney weather had other ideas. Poor light forced umpires to check conditions late in the session, leading to an early Tea break.
Minutes later, rain swept across the SCG, bringing play to a complete halt. Despite the groundsmen’s best efforts, conditions never improved, and Day 1 ended without a single over bowled after Tea.
Regardless, England found a rare sense of stability in a series where answers have been hard to come by.
