Bangladesh vice-captain Taskin Ahmed was conspicuously absent from the crucial Super Eight match against India in the T20 World Cup 2024 last month. He was replaced by Jaker Ali in the game, which India won by 50 runs in North Sound, Antigua.

Reports from Cricbuzz now reveal that the fast bowler missed the team bus after oversleeping in his hotel room. Despite rumors, an official denied any quarrel between Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha and Taskin.

Fans were puzzled when captain Najmul Hossain Shanto announced at the toss that Taskin was not in the playing XI. The seasoned right-arm pacer, who had played against India multiple times, was unexpectedly left out, leading to a weakened Bangladeshi bowling attack as India posted 196/5 in their 20 overs.

Following the conclusion of the tournament, a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official disclosed that Taskin had overslept and missed the team bus before the match against India. The official confirmed that Taskin had apologized to his teammates for the oversight.

"It is true that he (Taskin) joined the team later after missing the team bus. But only the coach can explain why he did not play. Whether he was in the plan or not (against India) is something that can be answered by the head coach (Chandika Hathurusingha)," the official told Cricbuzz under the condition of anonymity.

Amidst speculations of disciplinary reasons for Taskin's exclusion and a potential rift with Hathurusingha, the coach declined to comment officially, preferring to focus on the team's on-field performance.
