In other news, Texas Super Kings captain Faf du Plessis bludgeoned a scintillating century against MI New York in MLC 2025.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Monday, June 30.

Mulder Ton Set ZIM Target Of 537 Despite Masakadza’s Four

Wiaan Mulder crafted 147 from 206 balls with 17 fours and two sixes on Day 3 of the first Test against Zimbabwe to extend South Africa’s lead to 536 runs. Tony de Zorzi, David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne and Corbin Bosch also scored brisk 30s, while captain Keshav Maharaj notched up 51 runs off 70 deliveries as South Africa amassed 369 in 82.5 overs.

For Zimbabwe, Wellington Masakadza picked up figures of 4-98 in the innings. Chasing 537, the hosts lost opener Takudzwanashe Kaitano for 12 in the final over of the day before stumps at 32-1.

Doeschate Confirms 2 Spinners For 2nd Test, Hints Washington’s Return

Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has confirmed that Team India will play with two spinners in the upcoming second Test match of the series against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham later this week. Trailing 0-1 in the series, India played with one specialist spinner at Headingley in the form of Ravindra Jadeja.

Speaking with the reporters, while Doeschate did not confirmed which spinners will be making a cut into the playing XI, he praised Washington Sundar for his all-round excellence in the nets off late.

Jofra Archer Misses As ENG Name Playing XI For 2nd Test

The England team management has named England’s playing XI for the upcoming second Test against Team India. In a surprising move, the English team named an unchanged XI from their five-wicket victory in the first Test at Headingley in Leeds last week.

Fast bowler Jofra Archer, who recently made his return to red-ball cricket through the ongoing 2025 County Championship season, will now be missing out even though he was initially expected to make his comeback to Tests for England.

Moeen Ali Joins ENG As Bowling Consultant

Former all-rounder Moeen Ali has joined the England cricket team at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The 38-year-old will be serving England as a bowling consultant amid their ongoing five-match Test series against the visiting Indian team. Moeen might also assist the English batters in a bid to combat Indian spinners in the upcoming second Test match.

England, leading 1-0 in the series after their emphatic five-wicket victory against India at Headingley last week, will now face the visitors from July 2 onwards.

Faf Du Plessis Century, Hosein Three-Fer Set Up TSK Big Win

Texas Super Kings outclassed MI New York by 39 runs in match number 21 of the MLC 2025 season at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Batting first, the Super Kings mounted 223-4 from 20 overs after a sublime 53-ball 103 from captain and opening batter Faf du Plessis. Donovan Ferreira at number five also smeared 53 off just 20 balls with three fours and five huge sixes.

Chasing 224 for an improbable win, the MI New York managed just 184-9 in response. Kieron Pollard himself bludgeoned 70 of those runs from just 39 deliveries with five fours and five sixes to top-score in the innings. For the Super Kings, ace spinner Akeal Hosein picked up sensational match-winning figures of 3-15 off his four overs.
