Team India went in with one specialist spinner in the form of charismatic all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in the first Test at Headingley against England last week. While India lost the match by five wickets to go 0-1 down in the five-match series, Jadeja took just one wicket and conceded 172 runs across both innings. Moreover, he leaked runs at 4.33 an over on Day 5 in the decisive innings of the match.
Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate has now hinted out Team India’s possible spin combination for the upcoming second Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham against England.
Doeschate Says Team Not Sure Which Spinners Will Play
While speaking with the reporters, India assistant coach and former Netherlands cricketer Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed that the Indian team will “surely” play two spinners in the second Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. However, Doeschate also confirmed that team management is not yet sure which two specific spinners will get a nod in the playing XI.
The cricketer-turned-coach further stated that while all three spinners, namely Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar have been bowling nicely in the nets; Sundar seems to be batting well too. As circulating on social media, Ryan ten Doeschate said:
“I am sure two spinners will play. Which ones we are not sure yet. All three are bowling nicely, Washi is batting really well too.”
As of now, it remains to be seen if Ravindra Jadeja will retain his place in the playing XI for the second Test. While Jadeja failed to make any impact either with bat or ball at Headingley, Kuldeep Yadav has not played a single Test in England since his wicketless outing from 2018.
Washington Sundar, a designated all-rounder much like Jadeja but with much lesser international experience, is yet to play a single match in England.
