On Friday, November 15, the BCCI released a list of shortlisted players who will go under the hammer at the upcoming IPL 2025 mega-auction on November 24 and 25. 574 players will be auctioned in the upcoming event in Jeddah.

Earlier, the BCCI released a list of 1574 players who expressed their interest in playing in the cash-studded league in India. The list was then sent to ten franchises, who expressed interest in certain players and eventually, it was pruned to 574 players.

ECB Asks Archer To Focus On English Summer

Several big stars faced the axe, and their names were missing from the shortened list. Arguably, the most shocking exclusion from the list was England seamer Jofra Archer. The right-arm seamer represented Mumbai Indians in 2023, saw no interest.

One of the possibility among majority of the fans was that his with injuries have forced the franchises to rethink about spending their money on him. However, in the latest events, there are reports that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) intervened and asked Archer to pull out his name as they want him to maintain his fitness for busy English summer.

According to a report from Cricbuzz,  the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) wants him to stay fit for the summer Test, which is why he withdrew his name despite initially registering for two crores as his base price.

Archer To Face A Stokes-like Ban?

Now, it is to be seen whether Archer will face any ban from the BCCI because as per the revised rules, any overseas player who withdraws their name from the auction list will face a ban and will not be allowed to register for the next year's mini-auction.

A Similar Threat looms over Ben Stokes, who did not register his name for IPL 2025 mega-auction.
