With the IPL 2025 mega auction just around the corner, fans are buzzing with excitement, especially since this year’s auction is set to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as a two-day event from November 24 to 25. And while the auction is packed with 574 players, there’s one omission that has got fans talking – Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is missing from the final list.

Why Green Won’t Be at This Year’s IPL Auction?

Cameron Green was a big deal last season. After an incredible debut with Mumbai Indians in 2023, where he lit up the league with his powerful hits and handy overs, he was traded to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the same price ahead of last season’s auction.

However, his performance with RCB didn’t quite match the heights he hit with Mumbai. In his 13 outings with RCB, Green managed only 255 runs with a top score of 46, though he did snatch up 10 wickets, proving his utility with the ball.

Despite his potential, RCB opted to release him, leaving Green as a free agent. Yet, surprisingly, he isn’t part of the player pool for this season’s auction. Rumours have been doing the rounds with many wondering if Green had been overlooked or somehow left out of the final IPL auction list.

The real story? Green didn’t even register for this year’s auction. He’s been dealing with a lower-back stress fracture that needed surgery, so his main focus right now is getting back to full fitness.

This injury has not only taken him out of the IPL auction, but he’ll also miss other major events, including the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.

Clearing Up the Confusion

Given his condition, it makes sense that Green is sitting out the auction this time. Rather than risk aggravating the injury. The lanky all-rounder is aiming to recover fully and focus on his international career.

For fans and franchises alike, it’s disappointing – an all-rounder with his skill set is always in high demand. While some may have expected to see Green’s name in the auction list, the reason for his absence is quite simple – he never registered.

This wasn’t a case of a missed opportunity or a mix-up. Green simply prioritized his health and didn’t put his name in the hat this year. So, while fans might have to wait a little longer to see Green back in action, this sensible call bodes well for his long-term career.
