On Friday, November 15, the BCCI released a list of shortlisted players who will go under the hammer at the upcoming IPL 2025 mega-auction. The mega-event will take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah.
Earlier, the BCCI released a list of 1574 players who expressed their interest in playing in the cash-studded league in India. Meanwhile, the latest release has shortened the list to 574 players, which includes 366 Indians and 208 overseas stars, including three players from associate nations. 204 slots will be up for grabs, with 70 available slots for overseas players.
It is worth noting that several big stars faced the axe, and their names were missing from the shortened list. Meanwhile, this article will shed light on the best playing XI of the players who registered for the mega-auction but missed out on the final list.
Openers
Martin Guptill
The former New Zealand opener, who is the fifth-leading run-getter in T20I history, registered his name in the list at a base price of 1 crore. However, the right-hand batter saw no interest.
He has played just 13 matches in IPL history and last featured in 2019.
Paul Stirling
Talking about Stirling, the fourth-leading run-getter in T20I history also saw no interest as he registered for the mega-auction at a base price of 75 lakhs.
Interestingly, Stirling has never played for any IPL team in the history of the league.
No.3 Reeza Hendricks
Another shocking name missing from the list is Hendricks. The Proteas batter, who featured in PSL in 2024 after being picked in the gold category, and was part of South Africa's squad for T20 World Cup 2024, found no interest.
Hendricks too has never played in IPL and registered at a base price of 1 crore.
No.4 Andries Gous (WK)
USA and its players rose to fame during the T20 World Cup 2024 when they stunned Pakistan, and the buzz was that they would attract huge interest from IPL franchises. Unfortunately, Andries Gous has failed to do so.
Gous registered at a base price of 40 lakhs and found no interest despite averaging 43 in the T20 World Cup 2024, the second-best in the tournament. He also featured for Trinbago Knight Riders in CPL 2024 and yet saw no interest.
No. 5 Curtis Campher
A lethal all-rounder and impact player like Curtis Campher was also missing from the list of 574 players, despite him registering for the mega-auction at a base price of 75 lakhs.
It is worth noting that Campher is the first Irish player to take a hat-trick in T20Is.
No. 6 Aaron Jones
Jones, who stole the limelight during the 2024 T20 World Cup with his explosive batting also saw no interest as he also is a quality leader and led the USA in regular skipper Monank Patel's absence.
He registered at a base price of just 30 lakhs.
No.7 David Wiese
The 39-year-old, who has featured for several IPL teams like KKR and RCB in the past, will not be seen in IPL this time around as the 39-year-old was neglected by the ten franchises.
Wiese's age could be a factor behind his exclusion, but he features for Joburg Super Kings in SA20 and registered at a whopping base price of 1.5 crores.
No. 8 Jofra Archer
Arguably, the most shocking exclusion from the list is Archer. The right-arm seamer represented Mumbai Indians in 2023, but his consistent injuries have forced the franchises to rethink about spending their money on him.
Nonetheless, Archer, who recently returned to the game through The Hundred, registered for the mega-auction at the base price of 2 crores.
No. 9 Saurabh Netravalkar
The Indian-origin Netravalkar, who shone in the T20 World Cup 2024, was touted as a sure-shot pick in the auction and was also predicted to be one of the biggest buys of the auction. Sadly, he will not be going under the hammer as no team expressed interest in him.
Saurabh, who became the first USA player to take a five-wicket haul in T20Is, registered for the minimum base price of 30 lakhs.
No. 10 Imran Tahir (C)
The 45-year-old, who last played in IPL in 2021 for Chennai Super Kings, registered at a base price of 2 crores.
Notably, he still plays competitive cricket and leads Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL. Further, Tahir led the Warriors to the CPL title in 2023.
No. 11 Ajaz Patel
Ajaz is another renowned name, that is missing from the list. Patel, who recently stunned India in the Wankhede Test match, found no interest despite registering at a base price of 75 lakhs.
