India are all set for the five-match Test series against Australia Down Under and KL Rahul is one of the players who is in focus ahead of the opening Test in Perth. He has always been touted as one of the most talented batters but an average of under 35 in Test cricket clearly shows that he has not lived upto his billing.
KL Rahul has all the technique to succeed in varied conditions at the international level, but the problem has been his tendency to crumble under pressure. Now, Ganguly in an exclusive interview with Boria Majumdar for RevSportz has also emphasised on KL Rahul's mindset and lack of confidence. Ganguly stated that Rahul should talk to himself and get his confidence up first. He added that Rahul has gone through lot with LSG releasing him and people trolling him, but added that he will get back his due in the auction.
"Yeah, confidence. He has to speak to himself. He has to speak to himself and say, just put everything behind. Ups and downs are part and parcel of sports. Confidence will go up and down. You have to bring it back by working hard in the nets. I know he has gone through a lot. Lucknow Super Giants have released him. I do not know whether they will buy him back in the auction. I am sure he will find a good team and get his worth in the IPL. But these things put pressure on players."
Ganguly Wants KL Rahul To Change His Approach In T20s
The former Indian captain also added that KL Rahul has to change the way he plays in T20s and re-discover himself. He mentioned that KL Rahul has also the skills to succeed in tough conditions, but added that he needs to be mentally though and believe in himself.
"In and out of the team, he is seeing young players play well in T20s. You see what they have done in South Africa. He has to change and cannot keep playing the same way and expect to be picked all the time, because somebody else will come and get picked. So, I think he has got to sit with himself and get away from everything, all his friends and family, team and IPL owners, auctions and self-discover. Look at the mirror and say, I need to play differently. I need to get tough inside and fight this period. He has got a fantastic 100 in South Africa last time round. He can score hundreds in these conditions. But the mind has to believe that, and the fight has to be there."
The first Test against Australia is all set to start on 22nd of November and KL Rahul is likely to open the innings or bat at 3, with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill all set to miss the opening Test.
