The excitement has reached a fever pitch as fans eagerly await the announcement of IPL 2025 player retentions. The Board of Cricket Control In India (BCCI) had previously given a deadline of 31st October 2024 to all the franchises for the submission of the list.
What are the retention guidelines for IPL 2025?
In a significant change for the 2025-27 IPL cycle, the Governing Council of IPL handed down new retention guidelines, allowing franchises to retain up to six players. The teams can combine direct retentions or use their Right To Match (RTM) card, its first appearance since the 2018 Mega Auction.
Under such rules, each franchise is limited to five capped players and two uncapped players, but the total retained players shall be capped at six. This change would help improve the team strategy and player management in subsequent seasons.
