In a significant development around IPL 2025, there are reports that Shubman Gill, who is likely to be Gujarat Titans' first retention, is said to take a pay cut to help GT go with the maximum amount in the upcoming auction in the last week of November.

According to a report from Hindustan Times, Gill will take less salary than he is supposed to help Gujarat build a strong and core team to repeat the heroics of IPL 2022.

Gill To Take A Pay-Cut To Help Gujarat Titans

"Gill has decided to take a pay cut to ensure the core players are retained and build a stronger team," an IPL source said.

The report did not mention whether Gill is planning to help the team by allowing Rashid Khan to become the top retention or taking a pay cut despite being the top-retained star. If Gill takes a pay-cut, then Gujarat will have more amount going into the auction. Notably, BCCI raised the purse value to 120 crores.

Gujarat Titans' IPL 2025 Auction Strategy

At present, Gill earns eight crores, and despite any retention, he will get an increase in his salary. However, he might not be earning 18 crores if he is also the top-retained star, as per the report. Nonetheless, October 31 is the last date to submit the list of retained stars.

Gujarat are planning to retain Shubman, Rashid and Sai Sudharshan as the capped stars. Further, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan are among the contentions to be the uncapped retentions.

Further, there are no reports of Mohammad Shami to be retained. Notably, Shami was Gujarat's best bowler in IPL 2023 and missed out in IPL 2024 because of an ankle injury.
