Shubman Gill has emerged as one of the premier batters in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and securing him on any team is a dream come true. However, Gill reportedly wishes to remain loyal to his current team, the Gujarat Titans.
As per emerging reports, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is showing interest in acquiring Gill ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, scheduled for late November or early December. RCB is considering retaining only Virat Kohli, who has had discussions with management about taking on the captaincy to fill the leadership gap in the RCB camp.
Kohli led the side from 2013 to 2021; under his leadership, RCB reached the playoffs on four occasions and came agonisingly close to the win in the 2016 IPL season. However, they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. Alongside Kohli’s retention, the team was also eager to bring Shubman Gill into their squad.
According to TOI reports, RCB had placed the right-handed batter on their radar and were keen on bringing him onboard, but a deal did not materialise.
Shubman Gill, who has been with the Gujarat Titans since their inception, is expected to be retained by them and lead the team in the upcoming season. His form has been exceptional, with 3,216 runs scored in 103 matches at a strike rate of 135.70. He was also the top run-scorer in the IPL 2023, winning the Orange Cap.
RCB Eyes Rishabh Pant In IPL Mega Auction
Apart from Shubman Gill, the Bengaluru side was also looking to get wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant; there is a strong possibility that they will get him if he enters the IPL 2025 mega auction.
