The IPL retention dates are near, and there is a buzz in the air, with new updates on IPL franchises emerging every hour. Fans are eager to know who might be retained and who might be released. With just 24 hours left, the latest news from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) camp, as reported by ESPN, suggests that KKR is set to release their captain Shreyas Iyer, Jamaican star Andre Russell, and their most high-profile buy of IPL 2024, Mitchell Starc, ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction scheduled for late November or the first week of December.
Shreyas Iyer led KKR to their third IPL trophy in 2024, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the final. Iyer’s position has been under speculation, with earlier reports suggesting he wasn’t among the top retentions. Recently, however, new rumors indicate that the right-hander has requested a higher salary. Iyer reportedly demanded a substantial increase to continue his services for KKR.
Regarding Mitchell Starc, while he struggled in the initial matches, he made a strong comeback in key matches, taking 3 for 34 and 2 for 14 in KKR’s wins in Qualifier 1 and the final of IPL 2024.
KKR To Retain Rinku, Varun And Sunil Narine
Talking about the possible retentions, KKR is expected to retain key players, including finisher Rinku Singh, bowling sensation Varun Chakravarthy, star all-rounder Sunil Narine, and uncapped talent Harshit Rana. Kolkata Knight Riders may also consider retaining Ramandeep Singh as an uncapped player.
The 10 IPL teams need to submit their retention lists by October 31. According to the latest IPL rules, each team is allowed to retain a maximum of five capped players and two uncapped players.
