[Watch] Indian Team Arrives in Zimbabwe, Welcomed as T20 Champions For Upcoming Series

India won the T20 World Cup after defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the final. Just five days later, the Indian team arrived in Zimbabwe for their series and was welcomed by Zimbabwe Cricket as T20 World Cup champions.

Shubman Gill has been named the captain for the series against Zimbabwe. However he had reached Zimbabwe before the other players arrived from USA.

Only three players from the T20 World Cup squad are included in the Indian squad, but they are given rest for the first two games as the team reached Delhi last night and celebrations are planned with the squad.

Zimbabwe Cricket shared the video of the players reaching the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

In the absence of Rahul Dravid, who stepped down from the coaching job, VVS Laxman leads the young Indian side to Zimbabwe. There hasn't been a final decision regarding the new coach for India, but there are rumors that Gautam Gambhir could take charge as the next coach.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that a new head coach will be appointed soon, with their first assignment being the tour of Sri Lanka later this month.

The Zimbabwe tour presents an opportunity for Indian youngsters to secure a spot in the T20 team, as many senior players have retired from T20I cricket. 

Most of the players selected for the squad are based on their IPL performances. Riyan Parag and Abhishek Sharma who had great IPL 2024 are expected to make their India debuts in this series.
