It has been four days since India won the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy after beating South Africa by seven runs in the finals in Barbados. The entire country is in celebration mode and have been waiting eagerly for the players to arrive in the country to give them a warm welcome.
Notably, the Indian side is still stuck in Barbados because of Cyclone 'Beryl'. The Rohit Sharma-led side will leave for India on Wednesday and arrive in New Delhi in the early hours of Thursday.
Leading sports journalist, Abhishek Tripathi, who also was in Barbados to cover the tournament, tweeted that upon landing in Delhi, the team would meet PM Narendra Modi and then head to Mumbai for an open bus parade celebrations.
There were speculations as to which city would get to welcome and celebrate the victory with the players, but the latest media reports suggest that it would be Mumbai and not Delhi.
Previously, when India won the 2007 T20 World Cup, then also the MS Dhoni-led side held a bus parade in Mumbai and the fans arrived in thousands to receive the players. However, in 2011, the team did not held a proper bus parade because of the hectic schedule as IPL was round the corner.
