In an unprecedented turn of events, a special Air India charter flight summoned at Barbados to take the Indian World Cup winning team home is facing delay in arrival as Hurricane Beryl continues to unleash its wrath.

The Indian cricket team led by Rohit Sharma were crowned the T20 World Champions on June 29 after they beat South Africa in a close encounter at Barbados.

Team India's charter flight stuck in Hurricane

While the team wrapped up their celebrations in Barbados, the fans back home in India are patiently awaiting the men in blue’s arrival back home, which has been delayed due to a Hurricane in the city. Hurricane Beryl, a Category 5 storm, hit the city of Barbados just a day after the T20 World Cup final.

As per PTI, after the Grantley Adams International airport services resumed on Tuesday, BCCI summoned a special charter flight named AIC24WC (Air India Champions 24 World Cup) to carry Indian players, their families, support staff, several members of boards and media back to Delhi.

However, the charter flight which was supposed to arrive from New Jersey, USA to Barbados on July 2 faced a delay due to the storm. Instead the flight will now take off from the USA on July 2 and land at Barbados at around 2 am local time.

As per the new schedule, the Indian contingent will now depart at 4:30am local time on Wednesday and after a 16-hour long journey, the World Champions will finally land in Delhi on Thursday 6 am (IST), given there are no further delays.

Interestingly, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has offered media personnels stuck in the Barbados to accompany them back home on the same charter flight.

Also, the Indian team is expected to be felicitated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in Delhi for which the schedule is yet to be released.
