Shubman Gill likely to lead India vs Zimbabwe [X]

As per emerging reports, promising batter Shubman Gill is all set to lead India in the upcoming T20I series against Zimbabwe. As reported by The Indian Express, Gill is the front-runner to lead the national cricket team on the Zimbabwe tour where the Men in Blue will face the hosts in five T20Is. 

Gill, who led Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024, had a torrid time as captain, with his team finishing at eighth in the group-stage points table. 

The report also states that most of the senior players, including skipper Rohit Sharma, his predecessor Virat Kohli, vice-captain Hardik Pandya and explosive batter Suryakumar Yadav will be rested for the tour.

Meanwhile, swashbuckling left-handed batter Abhishek Sharma, who grabbed a million eyeballs through his spectacular performances in the IPL 2024, will likely receive his maiden call-up. 

The report claims that the BCCI men's selection committee has already finalised the Indian squad for the Zimbabwe T20Is. However, the selectors were waiting for the responses from Surya and Hardik, while both apparently haven't shown interest in being a part of the tour. 

Among others, youngsters like Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Riyan Parag will likely be picked up, while Rinku Singh and Sanju Samson will travel to Zimbabwe as the experienced players. 

Meanwhile, with Rahul Dravid's term coming to an end, legendary cricketer VVS Laxman will coach the Indian side on the Zimbabwe tour.
