Pakistani batter Babar Azam received a heartwarming welcome from the crowd when he walked out to bat against Durdanto Dhaka at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet in the 12th match of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2024).

Babar walked out to bat as an opener with West Indies' Brandon King. The spectators were ecstatic to see the batting maestro and gave him a huge ovation. From loud chants to posters, fans made the veteran batter's walk from the pavilion to the pitch a memorable one.

The stadium echoed with chants of his name, creating a memorable moment captured in a viral video.

It is pertinent to note that Babar is currently playing for the Rangpur Riders in the BPL. He joined the team after the conclusion of the five-match T20I series against New Zealand in New Zealand.

Babar didn’t disappoint the Sylhet crowd as he smashed his second fifty-plus score of the ongoing tournament in three games. The stylish right-handed batter scored 62 off 46 balls, laying the foundation for the other batters to go big. His knock was laced with five fours and one six. Danushka Gunathilaka dismissed him.

Babar’s knock was complemented by Azmatullah Omarzai's quickfire 32 (15) and Shamim Hossain Patwari's 17 (8).

In his first game of the BPL 2024, Babar showed his class by smashing a fifty to steer his team to a win against the Sylhet Strikers. Rangpur was in a spot of bother, chasing 121. Then Babar played the anchor role to take his team past the finishing line with relative ease.

In the second game, he was dismissed early by his Pakistani teammate Mohammad Wasim Jr. LBW. In this game, he came up with another important knock. He has been in fine touch ever since completing the Australia Test tour down under, where he failed to score a single half-century across the three Test matches.
