England’s women’s team captain, Heather Knight has pulled out of the upcoming edition of the Women’s Premier League. The second edition of the league is due to take place between 23rd February to 17th March 2024.

Heather Knight’s withdrawal comes as a huge setback for Royal Challengers Bangalore, as she was an integral part of RCB's line-up. The franchise, recently, took to Twitter to announce the development. Although, it didn’t specify the reason behind the same.

Several reports state that Knight took the decision in a bid to participate in the T20I series against New Zealand, which would start right after the WPL. The final of the Women’s Premier League is slated to take place on 17th March, while the five-match T20I series against New Zealand begins on 19th March in Dunedin.

“England captain Heather Knight has pulled out of the upcoming season of the Women’s Premier League 2024. The Royal Challengers Bangalore have named Nadine de Klerk as her replacement,” the WPL said in a statement.

The England Cricket Board is set to announce the squad for the upcoming five-match series against New Zealand next week. The report also says that the board won’t be considering the players for the first three T20Is if they decide to stay in India till the end of the T20 league.

Several other English players are due to take part in the league such as Alice Capsey (Delhi Capitals), Nat Sciver-Brunt and Issy Wong (Mumbai Indians), Danni Wyatt and Sophie Ecclestone (UP Warriorz), and Kate Cross (Royal Challengers Bangalore).

South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk named as a replacement for WPL 2024

Royal Challengers Bangalore have named South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk as the replacement for Heather Knight for the upcoming edition of the Women’s Premier League. The franchise took to its Twitter handle to announce the development.

“We welcome South African all-rounder Nadine de Klerk to our #ClassOf2024. She replaces Heather Knight who has pulled out of #WPL2024. Nadine was recently featured in the ICC Women's ODI Team of the Year, and we're sure that her skills will be a great addition to our team.” Franchise wrote in its Twitter handle.
