Veteran England pacer James Anderson, who missed out on playing in the first Test between India and England, tried his hand at bowling left-arm spin in the nets. As soon as the footage was shown on the big screen, ex-Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri praised the English speedster for his efforts.

During the third and final session of the day's play, broadcasters aired a video of Anderson attempting to bowl as a left-arm spinner. In the footage, Anderson is seen seeking tips on spin bowling from Jack Leach. The English speedster tried to replicate Leach's bowling on the practice wicket, unaware that his actions would be showcased during the match.

Shastri, fulfilling his on-air duties during Day 2's play in Hyderabad, commended the fast bowler's left-arm spin attempt, describing it as 'very good.' He expressed his approval with the words, "It’s coming out nicely. Very nicely. Well done, Jimmy."

The lighthearted moment prompted former English captain Eoin Morgan, present in the commentary box alongside Shastri, to playfully suggest that Anderson could become the 'greatest ever left-arm spinner with 600 wickets.'

It is pertinent to note that James Anderson, England’s highest wicket-taker in international cricket, has been dropped for the ongoing first Test in Hyderabad. Mark Wood has been selected ahead of the seasoned speedster as the lone seamer in the playing eleven, with Wood's express pace being the preferred choice despite Anderson's vast experience.

According to England Test captain Ben Stokes, Anderson is still a part of England's plans and is expected to play a role at some point in the series.

In terms of the game, the visiting England team is trailing as Team India maintains their dominance in the first Test at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

Resuming their first innings at 119/1 in response to England’s 246, they ended Day 2 on Friday, January 26 at 421/7, holding a substantial lead of 175, thanks to KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja's unbeaten 81.
