In the latest turn of events, Sri Lankan spin all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who announced his retirement from Test cricket in August 2023, has reversed his decision and returned to the Test squad against Bangladesh.

Last year, when Wanindu Hasaranga announced his retirement from Test cricket, he cited that he was retiring from the game's longest format to prolong his career in white-ball cricket.

Sri Lanka will play a two-match Test series against Bangladesh starting on March 22. Both teams have already competed in the limited-overs leg, with Sri Lanka winning the T20Is and Bangladesh clinching the ODI series.

Hasaranga brought his A-game in the ODI series, taking six wickets with an economy of 6.04, including a sweet four-wicket haul in the second ODI against Bangladesh. On the other hand, in his solitary T20I appearance against them, he picked two wickets.

On the other hand, the inclusion of Wanindu Hasaranga in the Test squad means he will likely miss the first few games for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Interestingly, Hasaranga was released by the Royal Challengers Bangalore before the 2024 IPL auction. Later, during the mini-auction held in Dubai last year, Sunrisers Hyderabad secured his services for his base price of Rs 1.5 crore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad will kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday, March 23, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The star spinner will likely miss all the matches of SRH till April 3.
