The Royal Challengers Bangalore Women, defeated the Delhi Capitals Women by eight wickets in a one-sided final of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 on Sunday, March 17, at Arun Jaitley Stadium, lifting the WPL trophy.

While Royal Challengers Bangalore missed out on playoff contention last season, this remains the second consecutive season in the final for Delhi Capitals. They lost the final against Mumbai Indians Women last year.

Delhi Capitals remained one of the most dominant sides throughout the Women’s Premier League 2024 season, winning six out of the eight league stage matches they played and finishing at the top of the points table.

However, after dominating the entire tournament, their team collapsed like a deck of cards when it mattered most, being bowled out for just 113 runs against RCB Women in the final.

Post their defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore Women in the final and another missed opportunity to claim the WPL title, Delhi Capitals Women captain Meg Lanning was seen in tears, unable to contain her emotions.

"Obviously disappointing not to get it done. Finals are about playing well on the day. Congratulations to RCB – you outplayed us tonight,” Lanning said in the final.  “It all happened relatively quickly as it tends to do. As we’ve seen in this tournament, crazy things happen. Full credit to RCB, they fought back really nicely and deserved the win."

While the Delhi Capitals women fell short of securing the WPL trophy, all eyes are now on the Delhi Capitals men's team, led by Rishabh Pant, as they aim to end their trophy drought and clinch the IPL title this year.
