Virat Kohli's excellent run to bag the 'Player of the Tournament' title at the ICC World Cup 2023 helped him surpass the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in another astonishing record list in international cricket.

The modern-day maestro's ascent to the biggest prize in the quadrennial event etched him past his inspiration in one more spectacular feat at the highest level.

After eclipsing the greatest's century tally in One-Day Internationals with his 50th hundred in the format during the semifinal against New Zealand, Kohli entered the record books as the cricketer with most 'Player of the Series' honours at the top-level game.

While Tendulkar achieved the personal landmark 20 times over 183 series in his remarkable career, Kohli edged over him with his 21st 'Player of the Series' title in what was the great player's 157th assignment in India jersey.

Kohli Surpasses Tendulkar's Special Record

Kohli may have personally not enjoyed receiving the 'Player of the Tournament' trophy following India's heartbreaking loss in the final against Australia on Sunday (November 19) but the esteemed cricketer's passionate fanbase could savour the man's incredible individual feat.

Especially as he leapt past the Master Blaster on another count in One-Day Internationals history. Having recorded an unmatched 50 centuries in his 50-over career during the semifinals versus the BlackCaps at the Wankhede Stadium, Kohli achieved the highest 'Player of the Series' honours at the podium after the defeat at the hands of Australia.

Kohli was one of the frontrunners to receive the prestigious title after hammering a whopping 765 runs in his 11 innings of the competition. The stalwart No.3 made three exceptional centuries in the tournament versus Bangladesh, South Africa and New Zealand with the latter of the three proving to be the most special since it allowed him to inch past his idol.
