The captain plays an important role in any team winning trophies, and for Australia, skipper Pat Cummins had an exceptional day in the field against India in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Final last evening.

From opting to bowl to cinching crucial wickets and making timely bowling changes, Cummins probably hit the peak of his leadership abilities when Australia needed it the most.

Australia went on to restrict India under 240 and then chased down their target with ease as Travis Head slammed a match-winning hundred, guiding Cummins and Co. to another World Cup title.

Former England captain Nasser Hussain has praised Cummins for his brave call to opt to bowl on a dry Ahmedabad track, where Indian skipper Rohit Sharma wanted to bat first.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Hussain stated how Cummins did not a foot wrong in the final, and that made all the difference.

Here's what Hussain said

"It was a brave decision from Cummins to bowl first. A weak captain would make a decision that if it goes wrong and you lose it makes you look less bad. But he made a brave and right decision. He absolutely nailed it. He nailed everything. Field placements, bowling changes. Everything was spot on."

The 30-year-old picked up wickets of the dangerous Virat Kohli and in-form Shreyas Iyer for 54 and 4, respectively, downing India's momentum.

2023 has already been a stellar year for Cummins, having retained The Ashes, and won the ICC WTC Mace.
