Despite facing the worst of setbacks with a loss in the ICC World Cup 2023 final on Sunday (November 19), Virat Kohli retained his lionhearted nature and gave a signed jersey to his friend and Australian middle-order giant Glenn Maxwell in Ahmedabad.

The legend was gracious even in defeat and enriched Maxwell's day by giving away his signed jersey to him as a mark of respect and congratulations for reigning world champions for the sixth time in One-Day Internationals.

The jersey would be recalled special for multiple reasons since it was worn by cricket's biggest contemporary global icon in a men's World Cup where Kohli was honoured with the most deserving 'Player of the Tournament' trophy for his whopping run over the past month.

The great right-hander lit-up the marquee competition with three spectacular centuries, including an emotional 50th ton to surpass maestro Sachin Tendulkar's tally of One-Day hundreds, while amassing 765 runs in his 11 innings at an average of 95.62 and a strike-rate of 90.31.

Notably, it was Kohli and Maxwell's first meeting since the Aussie maverick produced a timeless assault against Afghanistan in Mumbai during a league match in Mumbai.

Blasting an unbeaten double century from a precarious situation where an Aussie defeat seemed imminent, Maxwell took the six-time champions home with his 202* in a chase of 292.

The knock is being regarded as the greatest ever innings played in a One-Day Internationals given the enormity of his feat as the maiden men's Australian double centurion while battling extensive cramps amidst Mumbai heat and humidity.

Kohli perhaps had it in his mind to appreciate Maxwell's dominant effort whenever he were to reunite with his friend. The 35-year-old gifted him a signed jersey as a mark of respect and admiration for his knock and overall display in the World Cup where he struck two centuries.
