'Luck Hasn’t Been In...': Shoaib Akhtar On India's World Cup Final Loss Defeat

The best chance for India to finish their 10-year ICC title drought ended in disappointment after Rohit Sharma and Co. lost the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final against Australia last evening.

Heading into the CWC 2023 Final at Ahmedabad, India looked invincible and untouchable, having tasted wins in 10 consecutive matches, but failed to cross the final hurdle, losing to Australia in a one-sided encounter by six wickets.

Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar stated how India failed to turn up for the final match, despite being a run-away train throughout the competition.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Akhtar explained how India played timidly and that luck, too, did not favour the hosts last evening.

Here's what Akhtar said on Team India

“India played the final, it’s not an easy job. They reached the final by decimating all the other teams. Unfortunately, they couldn’t replicate their performances in the final. They’ve reached close to winning the trophy on many occasions in the last 12 years but couldn’t win it."

India has the best batting with Kohli scoring the most runs, Shami picked the most wickets. But unfortunately, luck hasn’t been in their favor. But Australia just know how to hold their nerve in big matches. I thought Australia’s approach was good and India’s approach was a bit timid.”

India scored a below-par 240 runs after being invited by Pat Cummins to bat first on a dry surface, which in the second innings became helpful for batting as Australia chased down 241 with ease following Travis Head's century.
