Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Monday, August 4.

Mohammed Siraj Takes Nine As India Skittle England

Team India overcame England by a narrow six-run margin on a thrilling Day 5 of the series-deciding fifth Test at The Oval.

Defending 374 runs and just 35 at the start of the last day, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj picked up three of the remaining four wickets on offer to complete a scintillating five-wicket haul. Siraj also completed a nine-wicket match haul to bag the ‘Player of the Match’ award. The outcome helped Team India level the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Test series 2-2.

Shubman Gill, Harry Brook Win ‘Player Of The Series’

Indian captain Shubman Gill and England’s ‘BazBall’ radical Harry Brook won the ‘Player of the Series’ award after the fifth Test went in the favor of the visitors.

Gill aggregated 754 runs in the series at a prolific average of 75.40, plundering four tons in the process, including his career-best Test score of 269. Brook also punched out two hundreds and two fifties in his series tally of 481 runs, and even top-scored for England in the final innings of the Oval Test before tailenders failed to draw up the 374-run target.

India Moves Up After Historic Win At The Oval

Team India moved up to number three position on the updated 2025-27 WTC points table. After defeating England by six runs, India’s PCT currently stands at 46.67. England, on the other hand, slipped to number four on the standings with a PCT of 43.33.

Australia continues to remain the only unbeaten team in the championship so far after pulling off a 3-0 triumph in the West Indies. Placed at the top of the table, they are followed by Sri Lanka for winning a Test series against Bangladesh a couple of months ago.

Bangladesh Name 25-Player Preliminary Squad For Asia Cup 2025

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named a 25-member preliminary squad for the Bangladesh cricket team for the upcoming 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup in the UAE. Litton Das is set to continue as Bangladesh skipper after leading his team to emphatic series wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

Nurul Hasan has been included in the expanded squad even though the wicketkeeper-batter last played a T20I for Bangladesh back in November 2022. Captain Litton is also accompanied by fellow senior pros like Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Nawaz Names Yuvraj, Shahid Afridi His Favorites After PAK Series Win

Mohammad Nawaz named Yuvraj Singh and Shahid Afridi as his favorite all-rounders after bagging the ‘Player of the Series’ award against West Indies.

The cricketer picked up seven wickets in three matches, which included successive three-wicket hauls, as Pakistan sealed the three-match T20I series by a 2-1 margin in Lauderhill. Even in the series-decider on August 4, Nawaz dismissed West Indies captain Shai Hope as Pakistan managed to keep the hosts down to 176-6 while defending 190 runs.
