Pakistan overcame West Indies by 13 runs in the third T20I in Lauderhill to bag the three-match series 2-1. While opening batter Sahibzada Farhan won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his splendid half-century, Mohammad Nawaz sealed the ‘Player of the Series’ honour for picking up seven wickets in three matches.
After the match, Nawaz made an explosive claim, delivering an unexpected salute to a legendary Indian cricketer to cut the cross-border tensions between the two geopolitical rival nations.
Mohammad Nawaz Names His Inspiration
After Pakistan’s 13-run series-clinching win in Lauderhill on August 3, ‘Men in Green’ spinner Mohammad Nawaz named former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh as his inspiration. While speaking at the post-match press conference, Nawaz said:
“Yuvraj Singh is my favourite all-rounder.”
Mohammad Nawaz’s comments occurred on the backdrop of Pakistan’s prevailing geo-political tensions with India.
Pakistan Wins T20I Series
Pakistan pipped West Indies by 13 runs courtesy of Sahibzada Farhan’s 53-ball 74. Saim Ayub also bludgeoned a fluent 66 off 49 balls at the top of the order as Pakistan charted 189-4 from 20 overs.
Mohammad Nawaz, an all-rounder himself, picked up the huge wicket of West Indies captain Shai Hope in the third T20I while defending 190. Hasan Ali, Haris Rauf, Saim Ayub and Sufiyan Muqeem also picked up a wicket each as Pakistan restricted West Indies to 176-6.
With seven wickets in just three innings at an impressive bowling average of 10, Mohammad Nawaz was adjudged the ‘Player of the Series’.
The cricketer, along with the rest of his Pakistani teammates, will now face the West Indies team in a three-match ODI series at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. The matches will be played between August 8 and August 12.
