India scripted history on Monday, August 4, after the Shubman Gill-led side registered a six-run win in the fifth Test and levelled the series 2-2. It was an enthralling week of cricket, filled with several ups and downs. Meanwhile, this article will revisit the iconic Test that lasted over five days through pictures.

1. Gus Atkinson Takes India By Storm

The hosts won the toss and opted to field first as the Three Lions made several changes. Ben Stokes was out with injury and Jofra Archer was also benched for the fifth Test. Meanwhile, Gus Atkinson played his first match of the series and spread magic in his first spell.

Atkinson rattled the India batters and took a five-wicket haul to put England ahead in the match. Gus registered the figures of 5/33.

Karun Nair struggled to make mark on his comeback series. Notably, the right-handed batter had amassed just 131 runs in six innings. He was also kept out of the fourth Test owing to his poor run, but the management backed him up for the 5th Test.

While the other batters struggled, Nair stood up and scored his maiden Test fifty in eight years. The 33-year-old scored 57 (109) to help India put 224 runs on the board.

Right before the end of the play on Day 1 of the fifth Test, England dealt a heavy blow as their star seamer Chris Woakes was ruled out of action after he dislocated his shoulder following a bad dive near the ropes. England were a man down as scans revealed an injury serious than thought earlier.

While, India struggled on Day 1, a totally different looking England walked to bat on Day 2 as Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley let the bazball talk and stitched a quick-fire 92-runs stand, but Akash Deep draw the first break-through and then gave a never-seen before send-off to Ben Duckett.

5. Siraj-Krishna Helps India Stay Alive In The Test

Despite Duckett, and Harry Brook's heroics, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj didn't let the tail do much damage and took four-wickets each to restrict England to 247 runs, a lead of just 23 runs. 

6. Yashasvi Jaiswal Shines With A Century

The second innings was for Yashasvi Jaiswal to remember as the southpaw smashed a century to end his second innings woes. Notably, the India opener started the series with a century and also ended the tour with a hundred. 

It was an emotional moment for the youngster as he dedicated his ton to his parents present in the stands. 

7. Akash Deep Turns England's Nightmare As Nightwatchman

India lost two quick wickets towards the end of Day 2, which is why Akash Deep walked to bat as nightwatchman. The right-arm seamer's stay was longer than expected as Deep slammed a brilliant fifty and stunned the hosts with his maiden half-century in Test cricket.

Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar were the stars with the bat in the fourth Test and were back at it again in the fifth Test. Talking about the second innings, Jadeja and Sundar both slammed fifties to help India put 396 runs on the board and set up a 373 runs target for England.

England lost three wickets for just 100 runs on the board and India were cruising towards a comfortable win which is when Joe Root and Harry Brook turned the course of the game. Notably, Root slammed a brilliant 105 (152), while Brook amassed 105. 

The duo stitched 195 runs stand for the fifth wicket to put England in a comfortable situation. 

10. Siraj-Krishna Trigger A Collapse

England were 301/3 at one point, but Siraj and Krishna combined to trigger a collapse and eventually reduced England to 357/9. Notably, Krishna and Siraj took four wickets each as England required 16 runs to win with final wicket in hand.

It was a lion-hearted effort from Chris Woakes as the right-arm seamer walked down the Oval stair and the crowd rose to their feet to praise the right-arm seamer for coming to bat with a sling on his broken shoulder. 

12. Siraj Ends The Match With A Perfect Yorker And Fifer

England required just seven runs to win, which is when Siraj bowled a perfect yorker to clean up Gus Atkinson and also claim his fifer. His spell helped India register a six runs win and draw the series 2-2.
