Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal pounded majestic centuries for India on Day 1 of the first Test against England at Headingley in Leeds. Ishan Kishan has joined Nottinghamshire for a short stint in the County Championship 2025 season. In other news, Bangladesh managed to gain a 10-run lead over hosts Sri Lanka on Day 4 of the Galle Test.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Friday, June 20.

Jaiswal, Gill Tons And Pant’s 65* Sink ENG On Day 1

Team India mounted 359-3 from 85 overs by stumps on Day 1 of the first Test at Headingley in Leeds. Following the quick dismissals of KL Rahul and debutant Sai Sudharsan at the stroke of lunch to Brydon Carse and Ben Stokes respectively, Yashasvi Jaiswal and newly-appointed captain Shubman Gill plundered majestic centuries to lead India’s command. Jaiswal composed 101 runs from 159 balls with 16 fours and a six before getting castled by Stokes, while Gill remained unbeaten at 127* off 175.

Rishabh Pant also cracked a speedy 65* and will resume the Indian innings on Day 2 alongside his skipper and number four batter.

Ishan Kishan Joins Nottinghamshire For County 2025

Ishan Kishan has signed a short-term deal with the Nottinghamshire cricket club for the 2025 County Championship season. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter is now available to play next two Division One matches for the club, including a home game against Yorkshire and an away fixture against Somerset.

Ishan Kishan recently represented the SRH franchise in the IPL 2025 season, and is currently eyeing an international comeback for Team India. While he was included in India A squad for unofficial Tests against England Lions earlier this month, the blistering stumper was excluded from the playing XI. A prolific outing in County Championship might pave way for him to jump back into national reckoning.

TKR Appoint Dwayne Bravo As Coach For CPL 2025

The Trinbago Knight Riders franchise has signed in legendary West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo as head coach for the upcoming CPL 2025 season. Bravo himself confirmed the development as per a social media update by the TKR, where he expressed his excitement in joining the team.

The two-time T20 World Cup winner and T20 cricket’s record wicket-taker recently mentored the KKR franchise in IPL 2025.

Bavuma Injured, Maharaj To Lead SA Vs ZIM

Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of South Africa’s squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe. Cricket South Africa (CSA) has now appointed bowling all-rounder Keshav Maharaj as interim national skipper instead. It is worth noting that Bavuma sustained a left hamstring strain during South Africa’s triumphant WTC 2025 final match against Australia at Lord’s earlier this month.

The series against Zimbabwe, not a part of the WTC 2025-27 cycle, will take place between June 28 and July 10 in Bulawayo.

Nayeem Hasan Picks Five After Kamindu Mendis’ 87 On Day 4

Sri Lanka bundled out for 485 on Day 4, despite resuming the innings at a commanding 368-4 in the morning session. Kamindu Mendis scored a cunning 87 from 148 balls with eight boundaries and a six, but a scintillating five-wicket haul from Bangladesh spinner Nayeem Hasan ensured the hosts remained 10 runs away from the visitors at the halfway stage. Hasan bowled 43.2 overs, conceded 121 runs and dismissed the likes of Dhananjaya de Silva, well-set Kamindu before mopping up the tail.

In response, Bangladesh reached 177-3 from 57 overs by stump to extend its lead to 187 runs, courtesy of half-centuries from opener Shadman Islam and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto.
