India had a fantastic Day 1 in the first Test against England at Headingley, and two cricket legends, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, couldn’t hide their excitement. Ganguly predicted that after Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, 2 more players could score a ton.

India didn’t regret losing the toss to England, as batting first, the visitors piled up 359 runs at the loss of just 3 wickets on Day 1 of the Leeds Test. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and debut captain Shubman Gill scored a ton each. The skipper remained unbeaten on 127 with Rishabh Pant by his side at 65.

Sourav Ganguly Senses Big Score By India In Leeds

Former legend Sachin Tendulkar praised Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill’s tons in the first Test vs England at Leeds.

He then drew a special comparison to the 2002 Headingley Test, where he (198), Ganguly (128), and Rahul Dravid (148) all scored centuries in the first innings. That strong batting performance led India to a famous innings and a 46-run win.

However, former India captain Sourav Ganguly replied with a fun twist. He opined that this year’s Headingley surface isn’t like the one in 2002. Ganguly expects 2 more Indians, preferably Pant and Karun Nair, to score a ton each on day 2.

If that happens, India could pile up a huge score in the first inning and try to dismantle England with a follow-on, thus aiming for an inning victory.

India Ends Day 1 Of Leeds Test On A High

Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge with a bold century (101), while captain Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 127, showcasing elegant strokeplay. After early wickets of KL Rahul and debutant Sai Sudharsan, Jaiswal and Gill steadied the innings. Rishabh Pant added late fireworks, smashing a quick 65*.
