Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are two of the most highly-regarded young batters in Indian cricket. So, after the retirement of both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma ahead of the England series, the pressure was on both these batters to stand up and fill their big shoes. The duo has started that journey on a bright note with centuries on the opening day of the first Test in Leeds.
They stitched together a stand of 129 runs, and their partnership took India to a strong position at the end of the day. However, there was a phase in their partnership when the two were finding it hard to run smoothly between wickets.
Shubman Gill And Yashasvi Jaiswal's Animated Chat At Headingley
In a video released by Star Sports on their official X handle, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are seen having an intense chat. At the start of the clip, Yashasvi Jaiswal is seen telling Shubman Gill to keep calling as he has a bad habit of running down the track after pushing the ball.
Gill, in reply, tells Yashasvi Jaiswal not to run unnecessarily. Jaiswal then tells him that he can say 'NO' loudly as he has the habit of just running.
After that chat, Yashasvi Jaiswal defends Josh Tongue's delivery towards the off side and sets off for a single. However, Gill refuses the single, which did not go well with the left-handed opener.
Jaiswal immediately expresses his frustration, telling his captain that there was an easy single there. Gill also understands his mistake and says sorry to Jaiswal as both young batters tried to find the tempo in the partnership with their own unique styles.
- Yashasvi Jaiswal: "Haan haan bolte rehna bas. Haa meri aadat hai aage jaane ki."
- Shubman Gill: "Bhaag mat jayio bas."
- Yashasvi Jaiswal: "Merko zor se no boldo chalega, meri aadat hai lekin."
- Yashasvi Jaiswal: "Arey aajao yaar, bhaiya yaar".
- Shubman Gill: "Thoda aage tha yeh sorry".
- Yashasvi Jaiswal: "Bahut dur hai".
Thus, it was quite an eventful discussion between the two superstars. They did not let it hamper their batting, though, and eventually scored hundreds to take India off to a rollicking start in the first Test.
