Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to raise his stocks on the international stage as the left-handed batter slammed a sensational century on his first England outing. This was the first time he was playing in England he became the first Indian opener to notch up a ton at Headingley, Leeds. He achieved the landmark in 144 balls as England bowlers had no answer against him.
Before Jaiswal, there have been several Indian openers who have scored a fifty at Headingley but none of them went on to score a century at the venue. The opener was involved in two huge partnerships, en-route to his century. He first stitched a 91-run stand alongside KL Rahul and was then paired with Shubman Gill as the duo added more than 100-runs for the third wicket.
This was his 3rd Test century against England, with the first two coming against them at home, last year.
Jaiswal's terrific record against England
He made his Test debut against the West Indies, however, the turning point came during the home Tests Vs England. The maverick opener smashed 712 runs, including two double centuries. His stellar series against England was pivotal in India's triumph over them at home.
Overall, he has 812 runs against England, with an average exceeding 90. Even in the ongoing match, the English bowlers have failed to decode the ways to dismiss the rising Indian star.
Jaiswal's unique feat in Tests
In the ongoing match, Ben Stokes won the toss and he decided to bowl first. The decision turned out to be a nightmare for him as Jaiswal once again tormented his bowlers with a marvellous hundred.
With this ton, he now has a century on Test debut - against West Indies, a century against Australia on his first Test, Down Under, and now has a magnificent century on his maiden Test on English soil.
