Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Saturday, September 13.
Injury Scare For Shubman Gill Before Pakistan Match
India’s newly-appointed T20I vice-captain Shubman Gill has reportedly suffered an injury scare in Dubai, just a day before their all-important Asia Cup 2025 Group A match against arch-rivals Pakistan. As per a TOI report, the charismatic top-order batter was hit on the hand during a training session, which left him in immense pain. Gill subsequently walked off the field and was assessed by the physios. He was even spotted with an ice pack on his hand at one stage. It remains to be seen if Shubman Gill will be available to face Pakistan on September 14.
Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Claim Unwanted Record Vs SL
Bangladesh openers Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon both fell for ducks against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi in match number five of the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup. Both Tanzid and Parvez were dismissed by Sri Lanka bowlers Nuwan Thushara and Dushmantha Chameera within the first two overs of the match. Owing to their collective failures, the two Bangladeshi batters have now become only the fourth different opening pair in Asia Cup T20 history to be dismissed for ducks.
Aiden Markram Named DSG Captain For SA20 2025-26
The Durban’s Super Giants franchise has named seasoned South Africa batter Aiden Markram as new captain for the upcoming SA20 2025-26 season. Markram, who previously led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, was recently acquired by DSG. Under his leadership, the Eastern Cape franchise won the first two editions of the SA20 back in 2023 and 2024. He parted ways with South Africa’s ‘Orange Army’ earlier this year.
The cricketer bagged a record-breaking deal of R14 million at the SA20 2025-26 auction from the DSG franchise, thus becoming one of the costliest purchases alongside young Dewald Brevis.
Renuka Singh Clears Fitness Test, Joins Team For AUS ODIs
Indian fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur has cleared all the fitness tests and has joined the ‘Women in Blue’ team, as confirmed by head coach Amol Muzumdar. The Indian Women team is scheduled to face Australia in a three-match ODI series between September 14 and September 20 in Mullanpur and New Delhi, and the series would serve as a dress rehearsal for both sides ahead of the 2025 Women’s Cricket World Cup. Renuka Singh last played competitive cricket back in March earlier this year during the WPL 2025 season for the RCB franchise.
