Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have been involved in some pretty close games in the last decade or so. The results for both the teams have also been a mixed bag in recent times, and thus, the Asia Cup clash between the two in Abu Dhabi is a crucial one.

The Bangla Tigers, though, got off to the worst possible start. The first two overs bowled by Sri Lanka bowlers were wicket maidens, and in those, the two openers, Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon lost their wickets.
Tanziad Hasan was the first to go against Nuwan Thushara, while Dushmantha Chameera removed Parvez Hossain Emon for a four-ball duck. It is quite rare for both the openers to lose their wickets for ducks, and in the history of T20I Asia Cup, it is just the fourth instance.
In the 2016 edition, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane both fell for a duck against Pakistan, while Mithun and Soumya Sarkar also suffered the same fate against Sri Lanka in the same year.
Then, in the 2022 T20 Asia Cup, Afghanistan openers Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz both fell for a duck against India, and now young Bangladesh openers have also joined the list.
Opening Pairs Dismissed For Duck In Men’s T20I Asia Cup:
- Rohit Sharma & Ajinkya Rahane (India) vs Pakistan, Mirpur, 2016
- Mohammad Mithun & Soumya Sarkar (Bangladesh) vs Sri Lanka, Mirpur, 2016
- Hazratullah Zazai & Rahmanullah Gurbaz (Afghanistan) vs India, Dubai, 2022
- Tanzid Hasan & Parvez Hossain Emon (Bangladesh) vs Sri Lanka, Abu Dhabi, 2025
After the early blows, Bangladesh kept losing wickets, and they lost half of their side at a score of just 53 at the halfway mark. The duo of Jaker Ali and Shamim Hossain brought them back in the match, though, and have given the Bangla Tigers something to bowl in the second innings.
