In an interesting yet expected development, Durban Super Giants have confirmed Aiden Markram as their captain for the upcoming SA20 2025-26 season. Markram, who previously won 2 titles with Eastern Cape, will now lead the Giants.

Makram, South Africa’s T20I captain, has a proven leadership record in the shorter format. Since the inception of SA20, he had been a part of Sunrisers Eastern Cape and won them 2 back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024.

However, despite profound success, Markram parted ways with Eastern Cape to enter the auction, which concluded earlier this month.

Aiden Markram To Lead DSG After Record Auction Pick

At the auction table, Aiden Markram turned out to be a hot pick, with franchises competing in an intense bidding war. Durban Super Giants eventually secured his services for a record price of 14 million rand.

He held the record of the most expensive SA20 player until Dewald Brevis fetched 16.5 million rand from Pretoria Capitals.

That being said, given his auction value, past record and experience, Durban Super Giants appointed Aiden Markram as captain for the upcoming SA20 2025-26 season.

The no-brainer choice was announced through a cinematic AI video featuring Makram as the captain of a ship that goes through risky waters to reach its destination.

DSG have never won an SA20 title before, though they played the finals in 2024, where Makram-led Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat them to clinch their second title.

Markram To Lead A Star-Studded Lineup

Durban’s Super Giants made headlines at the SA20 2025 auction by securing Proteas T20I captain Aiden Markram for a record-breaking R14 million, stunning many who expected him to join Pretoria Capitals.

This extends Markram's connection with the Super Giants franchise after he joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025.

After finishing bottom last season, the franchise went all out to rebuild, also signing fast bowler Gerald Coetzee (R7.4 million) and teenage sensation Kwena Maphaka (R2.3 million).

Local talents Ethan Bosch, Andile Simelane, and Marques Ackerman added depth. With Lance Klusener retained as head coach, the Super Giants look determined to bounce back.
