England inflicted a 146-run hammering on the visiting South Africans to level up the terms in the second T20I. Belligerent opener Phil Salt plundered his career-best T20I score by unleashing a record-shattering century in Manchester.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the second T20I of the three-match series between England and South Africa, as it panned out at the Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday, September 12.

Phil Salt, Jos Buttler Go Berserk In Historic England Innings

Hosts England made the visiting South Africans pay dearly after Proteas captain Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to field first. English opener Phil Salt and Jos Buttler started off with a 126-run opening stand in less than eight overs, with the latter smearing 83 runs off just 30 balls with eight fours and seven sixes. Salt went about his mayhem, unleashing a mountainous and a career-best 141* off just 60 deliveries to smack his record fourth T20I century, aided with a sequence of 15 electrifying boundaries and seven extraordinary maximums.

Jacob Bethell at number three also blasted 26 off 14 balls, while captain Harry Brook clattered five boundaries and a six to slap 21-ball 41* in his slog-overs cameo as England mounted 304-2 in 20 overs. For South Africa, left-arm spinner Bjorn Fortuin picked up both wickets that fell in the innings to claim figures of 2-52.

Jofra Archer, Sam Curran Easily Decimate The South Africans

South African opener Aiden Markram smeared 41 off just 20 balls, to blaze to a 50-run opening partnership in less than four overs with Ryan Rickelton (20 off 10). However, a top and middle-order wicket-taking spree from Jofra Archer (3-25) and Sam Curran (2-11) ensured the Proteas slipped from 50-0 to 77-4 in a matter of a couple of overs.

Archer dismissed Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Marco Jansen to claim figures of 3-25. Liam Dawson (2-34) and Will Jacks (2-2) chipped in with two wickets each as England folded up South Africa for just 158 in 16.1 overs. Levelling the three-match T20I series 1-1, the outcome also marked England’s highest ever in the history of T20I cricket.
