As Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), KKR co-owner Shahrukh Khan opens up about his 'saddest' moment in his journey with the team.

Kolkata Knight Riders were one of the hottest teams in the initial seasons of the IPL, known for their IPL title song and iconic black and gold jersey.

The team had an incredible squad, featuring players like Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting, Shoaib Akhtar, Umar Gul, and Brendon McCullum. However, the team's performances did not meet the expectations of Bollywood's Badshah.

Ahead of the IPL 2024 final, SRK opened up about KKR's initial years in an interview with Star Sports.

"Having the nicest set of team in the world and we kept on losing only again and again. still remember, which was the saddest moment, kisi ne mujhe aise bola ‘inka costume hi achha hai, inka gameplay to achhai hai hi nahi‘ (someday said to me ‘only their playing kit is nice, not their game’). I remember some expert talking this. It used to hurt" - Shahrukh Khan said.

However, with the re-arrival of Gautam Gambhir, everything changed. KKR won two titles under Gambhir's captaincy with a less star-studded team. When KKR struggled again, SRK brought Gambhir back ahead of the mini auctions in 2023.

"To come back with GG (Gautam Gambhir) and do this was outstanding. It taught us how to lose but never be losers and never give up hope. Sports teaches you that" - SRK added.

At the time of posting this article KKR was cruising against SRH bowlers chasing 114 runs in the IPL final.
