Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured thrilling wins in high-scoring crackers against KKR and CSK respectively. Priyansh Arya notched up a record IPL century for the Punjab Kings in Mullanpur. In other news, Pakistan’s T20 World Cup-winning cricketer Umar Gul is eyeing a coaching gig with the Bangladesh team.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Tuesday, April 8.

Pooran, Marsh-Powered LSG Edge Out KKR

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured a thrilling four-run win over defending champions KKR at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens in match 21 of the IPL 2025 season. Batting first, Mitchell Marsh muscled 81 runs off 48 balls, while Nicholas Pooran clobbered 87 unbeaten runs off just 36 deliveries as LSG mounted 238-3 from 20 overs.

In response, KKR fought valiantly in the run-chase, but finished at 234-7 from 20 overs to fall just a boundary short of the visitors. Captain Ajinkya Rahane led from the front by shaping 61 runs from 35 balls. Sunil Narine and unbeaten Rinku Singh bludgeoned swift 30s, but to no avail, as wicket-taking spells from Akash Deep and Shardul Thakur proved too much for Rahane’s troops.

Priyansh Ton, Shashank 52* Fuel PBKS Win Over CSK

Punjab Kings recorded its third win of the IPL 2025 season, this time overcoming CSK by 18 runs in match number 22 as played in Mullanpur. Batting first and losing five wickets within the first eight overs of the match, young opener Priyansh Arya clubbed 103 runs from just 42 balls, before Shashank Singh’s 36-ball 52* and Marco Jansen’s 19-ball 34* pushed the hosts to 219-6 from 20 overs. For the CSK, new-ball pacer Khaleel Ahmed and senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked up two wickets each, albeit in their expensive four-over spells.

Chasing 220, CSK reached a fighting 201-5 at the end of the innings, courtesy of Devon Conway’s well-compiled 69, Shivam Dube’s 27-ball 42 and MS Dhoni’s explosive 12-ball 27.

Priyansh Arya Tonks Fastest IPL Ton For An Uncapped Indian Player

Priyansh Arya notched up a 39-ball century against CSK to headline Punjab Kings’ 18-run win. Through the course of his match-winning epic, Arya recorded the fourth fastest century in IPL history, the second fastest among Indian players, and the fastest among uncapped Indian cricketers.

Slapping seven boundaries and nine huge sixes in his 42-ball knock of 103 runs, Priyansh Arya was fittingly declared as the ‘Player of the Match’.

The Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad is set to host international cricket for the first time since 2008, i.e., after a gap of 17 years.
