In a last-over thriller, PBKS beat CSK by 18 runs to win the 22nd fixture of IPL 2025. Batting first, Priyansh Arya’s blazing ton helped Punjab put 219 runs on the board. CSK once again flattered in the chase as despite Conway and Dube’s 89-run partnership, they fell short of 18 runs to endure 4th defeat of the season.

Here’s how PBKS vs CSK panned out in Chandigarh:

Priyansh Arya’s Counterattack Rattles Under-Pressure CSK

Punjab Kings batted first but Prabhsimran Singh fell prey to Mukesh Choudhary to get dismissed for a duck. Khaleel Ahmed delivered an absolute peach to dismiss Shreyas Iyer. Iyer, attempting an ambitious flick without much foot movement, left a bat-pad gap and saw his stumps flying. Ahmed further rattled Marcus Stoinis to get PBKS down to 3 wickets with just 54 runs on the board.

However, Priyansh Arya was unfazed by the fall of wickets on the other end. He unleashed carnage to deliver the best inning of his IPL career. He brought up a 19-ball half-century and went on to accelerate as the game progressed. He hit Ravi Ashwin for 21 runs before taking on Matheesha Pathirana for 23 runs in the 13th over. In just 39 balls, Arya brought up his maiden IPL ton and announced himself on the IPL stage.

PBKS Post 200+ Runs Total After Shashank-Jansen’s Finish

With Arya setting the tone of the inning, Shashank Singh and Marco Jansen had a 59-run partnership. Shashank slammed a quick 52* off just 36 balls whereas Jansen also contributed with 34 off 19 balls. With the duo’s carnage in death overs, PBKS managed to get 219 runs on the board at the end of the first 20 overs. For CSK, Pathirana conceded 52 runs without a wicket while Khaleel and Ashwin also conceded 45 and 48 runs respectively.

CSK Flatter Despite Strong Opening Partnership

Chennai Super Kings had a positive start to the chase with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway setting up a 61-run opening partnership. Rachin hit 36 off 23 balls but fell prey to Glenn Maxwell. Moreover, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had another failure, walking back on 1 run after Lockie Ferguson trapped him with a short-of-length ball that had uneven bounce. Gaikwad played into the hands of Shashank Singh, leaving CSK in trouble.

Chennai Collapse Again In Chase To Suffer 4th Loss

Devon Conway and Shivam Dube somehow kept CSK in the hunt with a promising partnership of 89 runs. While Conway scored 69, Dube departed after contributing 42 off 27 balls. Conway was interestingly retired out to pave the way for Ravindra Jadeja as CSK needed 50 off runs off the last 3 overs.

MS Dhoni and Jadeja paired up and hit Arshdeep Singh for 15 runs in the penultimate over. However, with 28 runs needed off the final over, Dhoni was dismissed by Yash Thakur, ending CSK’s hope. Yash bowled a fantastic final over, conceding just 9 runs. With that, PBKS won by 18 runs and handed CSK their fourth defeat of the year.
